5W and a Wire

We visited Washington near Seattle in the Pacific Northwest. We'd heard that the Rattlesnake Ledge had some of the most amazing views at it's overlooks. We went on a hike up 1400+ feet to check out the three steller overlooks.

Of course we brought our radio gear. We have a pack that is about 1 lb comprised of a QCX-mini, EFHW wire antenna, little battery, and tiny K6ARK paddle.

Michael tried calling CQ but didn’t have any luck.  But then just as we were about to give up, we both made contact With Spencer N4KPT who was 2130 miles away in TN.

To us, this was a success. A great hike, amazing views and a contact from over 2000 miles away with only 5w and a wire.  This is our north star and why we practice CW, love low power, and we hope it inspires others to get out and have fun too.
